MORE BIGGER (MASSES) - ONE NIGHT ONLY
In a dank sub-basement of a long-abandoned office complex, former employee Guy Johnson arrives for a business meeting that was never scheduled for a job he was fired from long ago. His unregulated love for his work soon consumes him, and a day on the job turns into a delightfully horrific vision of where we've been, where we are and where we might be going still. Grotesque, surrealism, appropriated-text, commedia dell'arte, clown, improvisation, audience participation, games, and current events all combine into a comedic theatrical poem of collapse, disappearance and transformation.
"We asked, what if during the opening days of the 2008 financial collapse someone from one of these investment firms broke down, crawled down into the deepest sub basement he could find and never came back up?" says Black Hive founder Gabriel McKinney (who plays Johnson). "What would he be like living for years on end in this filthy, suspended animation while his guilt, avarice, denial and desperation grow like unchecked mildew?"
Produced by Nathaniel Justiniano, Artistic Director of the award-winning Naked Empire Bouffon Company and one of the Bay Area's leading creators of comically-aggressive physical theatre. Black Hive Theater Projects is a theater collective exploring creation and design at the intersection of play. MORE BIGGER (MASSES) fuses the talents of internationally renowned Cirque du Soliel clown John Gilkey (Director), master clown Ronlin Foreman (Original Direction), and Black Hive's team of creators and designers: Gabriel McKinney (Johnson), Ann Loud (Costume and Production Design) and Soren Olsen (Lighting Design). The result of a year-long development process, MORE BIGGER( MASSES) is the collective's debut production and is touring northern California in the spring, close on the heels of booking its first tour to St. Paul, MN this past November.
