Sessions from the Martin Hanson
Please join us for the final concert of the 2018 series on Sunday April 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the NGL Visitor Center's Martin Hanson Theater and help us finish out the season in style with our featured guest, flutist Betty Braunstein. Betty is a classical musician in the finest sense of the phrase but one who has always "colored outside the lines" of tradition, making her a perfect addition to the Martin Hanson series. She'll be joining us in the first half of the program in performing selections from our nationally touring performance, "John Muir - University of the Wilderness", a program full of our original chamber music intertwined with the writings of Muir. We'll provide the soundtrack as Cheryl delivers Muir's stories of his early boyhood days in Scotland, complete with tales of shipwrecks off the craggy coast outside Dundee, move on to some nature inspired stories from his days on the family farm in Portage Wisconsin, and then off to his historic adventures in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. In the second half of the program we'll feature music that Betty and I chose from her vast array of musical passions. You'll hear tunes drenched with images of Ireland, a contemporary composition portraying Spider Monkeys (yes you read that correctly), another inspired by a swirl of butterflies and a good dose of music derived from Betty's great love of the Tango. It's got all the ear markings of another Martin Hanson session you're not likely to forget.
In addition to the sonic smorgasbord we have planned, we are extremely excited to tell you that as a beautiful visual accompaniment to our Earth Day offerings, we'll be featuring the projected photos of artist and photographer Ros Nelson of littlebigbayshop.com
