Watercolor at The Huntington
Saturdays, May 12-June 16 Each session 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Each session sold separately.
Artist and author Richard E. Scott will conduct six classes, painting the gardens and architecture of The Huntington in watercolor. These classes are perfect for artists (plein air and studio painters), architects, designers, urban sketchers, students, hobbyists, and beginners. Students will improve their skills in color, design and technique, develop better visual perception, and enrich their visual experience. Students can enroll in individual classes or attend all six.

May 12 - Confidence with Color - Part I The first session will focus on unlocking the mysteries of color, using logic, and a simple palette of paints, to produce any color desired. The first session will be conducted in the studio.
May 19 - Confidence with Color - Part II Methods on how to capture the authentic colors in a scene are demonstrated and practiced. Students apply the lessons to paint various outdoor areas of The Huntington.
May 26 - The Behavior of Water Knowledge of how water behaves on paper is the key to painting superb watercolors. Methods on how to gain the upper hand with water will be demonstrated and practiced. Students apply the lessons to paint various outdoor areas of The Huntington.
Jun. 2 - Advanced Techniques A wide variety of interesting and fun watercolor techniques will be demonstrated and practiced. Students apply the lessons to paint various outdoor areas of The Huntington.
Jun. 9 - Secrets to Painting Architecture Students will learn a methodology to simplifying complex architectural subjects down to the most interesting and appealing elements. Students apply the lessons to paint the architecture of The Huntington.
Jun. 16 - Secrets to Painting Trees & Landscape Students will learn how to see and interpret trees and landscape in a unique way so that they can be effectively painted. Students apply the lessons to paint the gardens of The Huntington.
Class is held in various locations on the grounds. Visit any admission window for directions to the Banta Education Courtyard for check-in at 8:45 a.m.
