Houses on the Land: Wallkill Valley Land Trust's 8th Annual Historic House Tour
This years tour explores the fascinating history, families, agriculture, and cultural heritage of the town of Plattekill winding through the richly varied countryside via its many crossings and its hamlets - New Hurley, Modena, Ardonia, Clintondale and Plattekill, a rarely explored and little-known land-locked region between Gardiner, Shawangunk, Marlboro and Lloyd.
The day begins with registration and a tour of the beautiful interior of New Hurley Reformed Church. Featured are a selection of the towns most interesting and unusual vernacular treasures in a range of period styles, dating from the 19th to the 20th century. An important theme is the Greek Revival aesthetic and its diverse vernacular expressions in the region. An informal reception and tasting of local wines at an artists private studio/home in a stunning landscape setting ends the day. A great adventure awaits us - most houses have never before been open to the public.
Admission includes the reception and tasting of local wines at a private artists studio-home (location disclosed on June 2nd).
Volunteer and take the tour for free! Please email: josemmL09@gmail.com or call Melissa, at 845-255-2761 for more information.
Proceeds to benefit WVLTs land preservation efforts. It is the mission of the Wallkill Valley Land Trust to conserve lands of scenic, agricultural, ecological, recreational and cultural significance.
