A Woman's Place is in Her Home
A Woman's Place is a year long project that seeks to give voice to the challenges homeless women in our community face every day. We aim to bring perspective and empathy to our larger Humboldt community through a theatrical storytelling event, to bridge the divide between those with places they can call home and those without.
We will make meals together and strive to bond as tightly as we can throughout the process. A Woman's Place is in Her Home, will culminate in a theatrical piece that will include storytelling, music, soundscapes and audio documentation. It will involve other community artists and musicians as well as homeless women. Homeless people and their providers will be granted free admission. We will encourage discussion and involvement after each show.
Giving a voice to women who are homeless will address some of the concerns that they face, enable our community to connect homelessness to actual people, and provide fertile ground for communication. These women will have an opportunity to tell what life is like for them. They will have an audience that cares and respects them. They will be celebrated for telling their stories and one can hope, that with knowledge comes understanding and acceptance. All of this will lead to an increase in self-esteem, the education of the community, and increased respect when they are seen on the street or sleeping in their car. Opens April 27th at 8pm, April 28 at 8pm and April 29 at 2pm
