DUSAN TYNEK DANCE THEATRE: Middlegame and Romanesco Suite
Duan Týnek is known internationally for his striking blend of theatricality and musicality. Employing tactics of game strategy and seduction, Týneks Middlegame takes its inspiration from the game of chess and 19th century café life. The piece was praised by the New Yorker as a mad party in Victorian undergarments ...the internal designs thrill with lovely detail and ingenious mayhem. Romanesco Suite is accompanied by a recording of the 17-year brood of cicadas that emerged in the summer of 2013 and is a playfully abstract reflection on the natural order of relationships.
The New York Times declared it compelling and terrific. (Duan Týnek) has earned a reputation for his imagination, his choreographic craft and his musicality. - Brian Seibert, The New York Times
"a very musical choreographer ... I greatly admire how warmly Tyneks dancers respond to one another and the space around ... big, musical, full-bodied dancing ... beauty abounded" Deborah Jowitt, ArtsJournal
