Introduction to Marine Diesel Engines
Welcome to the world of marine diesels! This two day course is designed to benefit mariners who operate vessels equipped with diesel engine(s). The course will take place over a weekend using both lecture and hands-on experience to teach the basics components, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of a diesel engine.
The course is structured around the basic understanding of a diesel power plant, what tools to have on board, when to pay for a professional mechanic, and things to look out for to prevent further problems. Participants will have access to real engine components and a real engine to make the transition between theoretical to practical understanding. The course will be taught by Meredith Anderson, a licensed USCG 3rd Asst. Marine Engineer and professional heavy diesel mechanic.
