Connect with spring's renewing energy through the collective joy of Balkan Rom (Gypsy) dance. The Rom dance tradition contains the breadth of human experience, mirroring the cycle of life. Come dance into your full self. Connect with life energy to support your vision.
A typical class begins with a guided, improvised warm-up. We will then learn the circle form of basic traditional Balkan Rom dances. Just as the musicians in Rom music take off on wild improvisations, we will practice dancing with expression and freedom.
Over the course of the session, as buds swell on the trees, we will give movement to our visions, exploring themes of resistance, strength, and leadership. Journaling prompts will be given between sessions. The vision of each person in the circle, and our shared vision for the world, will shape our creative expression and co-creation of a final dance ceremony.
