A Cape Breton Afternoon with Ben and Anita
Ben Miller and Anita MacDonald join together, blending the rich traditional sound of the Cape Breton fiddle with the fiery edge of the Scottish Border pipes. Combining their creative vision with influences from Old and New World Gaelic traditions, they create a powerful sound.
Ben and Anita will be at MacLeod Ale Brewing Co., 14741 Calvert St., Van Nuys, CA 91411 (MacLeodAle.com) on Sunday April 22, 2018, presenting an afternoon of music and dance workshops as well as a concert.
Workshops:
Come to 1, 2, or all 3 for the one price of $20. Music workshop attendees should have some experience with learning by ear and should play fiddle or other melody/accompaniment instruments in the folk tradition (e.g., flute, mandolin, accordion, guitar, bouzouki, cello, double bass). Melody instruments are welcome at the accompaniment workshop and vice versa.
Fiddle/melody (12:00-1:30 p.m.)
Accompaniment (1:30-2:30 p.m.)
Cape Breton Step Dance/Square Dance (2:30-3:30 p.m.)
Concert:
4:00-6:00 p.m. $20 admission.
