Swing Tank with the Eddie Pasternak Quintet
EDDIE PASTERNAK, guitar Presenting the rare combination of musicianship, elegance, and infectious enthusiasm Eddie's guitar work has been a mainstay of the Bay Area's music scene for 30 yrs. A student of Warren Nunes and Joe Pass, and Tuck Andress. Eddie has played with Alumni from the world's greatest jazz bands: two years with pianist Tee Carson (Count Basie), four years with drummer Dave Black (Duke Ellington). Featured performances include sax great Stan Getz, and a long list of local favorites: Roger Glenn, Marcos Silva, Kenny Washington, Carlos Reyes, Larry Dunlap and Akira Tana.
He has taught extensively, proud to have introduced many aspiring players and listeners to the joys of jazz & Brazilian music. Music critic Lee Hildebrand describes him as a "remarkable guitarist who generates intense swing playing bass lines and chords simultaneously."
ROGER GLENN..Vibes, Flute, Sax Roger has performed, toured and recorded with jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria, Rosemary Clooney, Herbie Mann and Pete Escovedo. His flute playing is featured on the Grammy-award winning album La Onda Va Bien with Cal Tjader, as well as many notable recordings by Donald Byrd, Peaches and Herb, ConFunkShun, and Bobby Hutcherson. In addition to his own Roger Glenn Latin Jazz Ensemble and The San Francisco Jazz Quartet, he most recently has been touring as a special guest with Taj Mahal, Kurt Elling, and The Count Basie Orchestra. Roger Glenn Jazz Organ Trio toured the west coast as the opening act for the legendary Steely Dan (spring 2015).
MARCOS SILVA - Piano, synthesizer Pianist, composer, arranger, producer and educator Marcos Silva performs worldwide. Nominated for two Grammys, he toured with many artists, including Paquito DRivera, Bud Shank, Claudio Roditi, Raul de Souza, Toninho Horta, Leny Andrade, Edu Lobo, Emilio Santiago, Dori Caymmi and many more. Marcos was musical director for Flora Purim and Airto Moreira for 24 years. He wrote arrangements for Dizzy Gillespies band and replaced Gil Evans as composer-arranger of Airtos Spiritual Mass with a 63 piece orchestra in Germany. He is sought after as a producer of CDs, including two of his own. Marcos heads the Brazilian Music Department at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.
LEON JOYCE, JR. ...Drums Leon Joyce, Jr., a native of Meriden, Connecticut, received his musical training through private instruction under John Oblon and Jimmy Rozelle. As a drummer, Leon has worked with a wide variety of top artists which include Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, Norman Connors, Tom Browne, Yve Evans, and many more. Leon is currently a regular with the Leon Joyce Trio, the Jamie Davis Quintet and the Sista Monica Band. He has performed at many of the top International Jazz Festivals, including Montreaux & Lugano Jazz Festivals in Switzerland and the Villingen Swing/Jazz Festival in Germany. Nationally, he has appeared in the MontereyJazz, Playboy Jazz and JVC Jazz Festivals in California, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in Louisiana & the JVC Jazz Festival in Colorado.
SCOTT THOMPSON - Bass Scott Thompson grew up in a family of celebrated musicians and musical educators. He has a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, CA. An educator himself, Scott teaches ensembles, bass master classes, and workshops worldwide. He is much sought after as a studio musician. Scott tours and performs globally with Chico Pinheiro, Marcos Silva, Dick Hindman, Helio Alves, Tiago Costa, Rafael Vernet, Toninho Horta, Dani and Deborah Gurgel, Jovino Santos Neto, Thiago Rabello, Kiko Freitas, Rafael Barata, Leny Andrade, Vitor Gonçalves, Marcio Bahia, Edu Ribeiro, Celso Alberti, and Terrence Kelly.
