Month of Sundays: Younggun Kim
Do you enjoy classical music? Would you like the opportunity to experience world class performers from University of Toronto, Faculty of Music? Would you like to beat the winter blues and join us for a bit of lunch and a bit of music after church in March?
The Music Ministry at MCC Toronto has been hosting Euchre Tournaments since 2010. As a way of saying thank you for the congregations support for our concerts and latest CD, we are inviting you to experience beautiful music and a light lunch for $10 in our Sanctuary. Join us in our Sanctuary from 1:00pm to 2:00pm four consecutive Sundays in March.

Performing on Sunday, March 3, 2013: YOUNGGUN KIM, SOLO PIANO
Younggun Kim is a pianist known for his blazing technical capacity and a lush sound supported by a natural phrasing sense (Timothy Gilligan, New York Concert Review). After his debut with the Toronto Philharmonia conducted by Maestro Kerry Stratton performing the Brahms First Piano Concerto in 2008, he was invited by the same orchestra for two more consecutive seasons. He has performed around North America and Europe, and was a prize winner at the 11th San Antonio International Competition, where he also won the Best Performance of a Work by a Spanish or Latin American Composer. Younggun's 2012-2013 season performance includes Rachmaninoff's Second Concerto with Niagara Symphony (Bradley Thachuk, director) and a recital at Walter Hall of the University of Toronto. The winner of 2011-2012 Doctor of Musical Arts Recital Competition at the University of Toronto, he also received various prizes and scholarships from the University of Toronto, Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Canadian Music Competition, Shean Competition, the Alice and Armen Matheson Graduate Scholarship, Anne Burrows Foundation and Winspear Fund. A Toronto-based Canadian citizen from South Korea, he studied with Professor KyungRok Park in Seoul, and Dr. Roger Admiral and Professor Alexandra Munn in Edmonton. After finishing his undergraduate degree at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music with Professor Marietta Orlov and Master's Degree at Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University under the guidance of Professor Boris Slutsky, Younggun is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Toronto with Professor Marietta Orlov.
