This workshop will introduce methods for exploring the local urban landscape of Bushwick. We will walk with our cameras as a group and exercise methods of active looking - honing our perceptions of the interaction between light and texture, place and history, the fabric of the contemporary cultural landscape. Observing unique facets of the environs (i.e. - railroad tracks, industrial architecture, etc.) in tandem with graffiti murals and passers-by. Nicholas will work one on one with students on technical and compositional elements as well as elements of style. This workshop is suited for photographers of all skill levels. Each participant must supply their own camera (DSLR, point-and-shoot, film/analog, iPhone, etc.).
Nicholas Pollack Bio:
Nicholas Pollack (b. 1986, New York, NY) is a Brooklyn-based photographer. He received his MFA in Photography from the University of Hartford in 2015, and he earned a BLA in Photography and Literature from Sarah Lawrence College in 2010. He has taught photography courses and workshops at The International Center of Photography and at The Putney School in Putney, Vermont. In 2016 he was nominated for an ICP Infinity Award, MACK First Book Award, and he was shortlisted at Self Publish Riga. A monograph of his celebrated project Nothing Gold Can Stay, is held in the following collections: The Museum of Modern Art Library, The Whitney Museum Library, and The Getty Research Center.
