"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" 12 June 2018
A landmark in cinema history, and a beautiful production, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was anything but a sure thing. Both Disneys family and colleagues at the studio tried to talk Walt Disney out of spending the time and precious company resources on a feature length cartoon when short films were where the money was. Hollywood industry types referred to the production as Walts folly, but the premiere was a smash, landing Walt and his seven animated diminutive stars on the cover of Time magazine. Disney received an honorary Oscar for the breakthrough production, and promptly funneled the money made from Snow White back into the studio, leading to Pinocchio, Fantasia, and dozens more classic films. Someday My Prince Will Come became a jazz standard. 83 minutes, Rated G.
