Anis Mojgani Book Release Party!
Come celebrate Anis Mojgani's newest poetry book, "In the Pockets of Small Gods." The evening will be hosted by Derrick C. Brown, with performances by poets Jeremy Radin and Jessica Abughattas, and musician Amanda Rafkin!
Anis Mojgani is a two time National Poetry Slam Champion, winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam, and multiple-time TEDx Speaker. He has been awarded residencies from the Vermont Studio Center, AIR Serenbe, and the Oregon Literary Arts Writers-In-The-Schools program. Anis has performed at numerous universities, festivals, and venues around the globe and has performed for audiences as varied as the House of Blues and the United Nations. His work has appeared on HBO, NPR, and in the pages of such journals as Rattle, Forklift Ohio, Paper Darts,Thrush, and Bat City Review.
Derrick C. Brown is a novelist, comedian, poet, and storyteller. He is the owner of Write Bloody Publishing and the author of seven books of poetry and three childrens books. The New York Times calls his work, a rekindling of faith in the weird, hilarious, shocking, beautiful power of words.
Jessica Abughattas lives in Los Angeles. She is an MFA candidate at Antioch University, and Editor-in-Chief of Lunch Ticket. Her poems are published, or forthcoming, in Thrush Poetry Journal, Boaat, Stirring Lit, Drunk in a Midnight Choir, Rogue Agent Journal and elsewhere.
Jeremy Radin is a poet, actor, and teacher. He's appeared on several television shows, films, and plays including "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and Terrence Malick's "The New World." His poems have appeared in Gulf Coast, Grist, SideKick Lit, Winter Tangerine, and elsewhere. He is the author of two collections of poetry, "Slow Dance with Sasquatch" and "Dear Sal."
Amanda Rafkin attended the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music on scholarship and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout her career. Over the past fifteen years, Rafkin has performed as a soloist and accompanist nationwide. In addition to her classical music performances, she has played in multiple musical theatre productions and spoken word performances throughout the country. Recently, she opened for Shabazz Palaces as well as Grammy-nominated singer Mary Lambert.
