jeremy messersmith & The Laurels String Quartet
Everwood Farmstead Foundation continues its 7th season of the Artist Series with jeremy messersmith & The Laurels String Quartet on Saturday, August 11th.
Born in Charleston, SC and raised in rural Washington, singer-songwriter jeremy messersmith began playing music in church at a young age, and like many homeschoolers, counts Sandi Patti, Carman, DC Talk and Michael W. Smith amongst his earliest musical influences. After a promising trumpeting career was tragically cut short due to braces, jeremy turned to the guitar as his instrument of choice and eventually relocated to Minneapolis to study music. A thoughtful, clever lyricist with a tender voice, jeremy crafts songs that are catchy and relatable, and span the emotional gamut from sweetly infectious (NPR's All Songs Considered) to heartbreakingly gut-wrenching. His newest album, Late Stage Capitalism (Glassnote Records) was released in March 2018.
The Minneapolis-based Laurels String Quartet is as comfortable playing in a rock club as they are in a concert hall. Over the better part of a decade, they've made music with artists like jeremy, Belle & Sebastian, Macklemore, Father John Misty, Semisonic, Dessa, Haley Bonar, Motion City Soundtrack, The Suburbs, The New Standards, Grammy Award Winner Dan Wilson (Adele, Taylor Swift), John Munson, and many more. The Laurels have played everything from living rooms to arenas, including: The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, First Avenue Main Room, The Fitzgerald Theater and The State Theater. Everwood's Pay-What-You-Can ticket price is simple-choose your ticket price from the list above. One-half of your ticket price will be provided to the artists and the other half will be distributed through Everwood's Aspiring Artists Fund. The Fund provides grants to arts-focused teachers in Barron, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, Polk and St. Croix counties for projects that spark wonder and talent in their young, aspiring artists. Everwood reveals a recipient(s) at each performance. Since 2010, Everwood has donated almost $18,000 to local school programs.
