Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, now in its 9th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.
(Please note: The show now starts at 7pm, rather than 8pm.)
The Thursday, April 19 show features Justin Lucas, Ian Williams, Barry Fischer, Eve Meyer, and Lisa Geduldig.
Justin Lucas, a San Francisco native, began doing stand up in 2011 at the Punchline, Cobbs, and other popular Bay Area venues. He has opened for well-known comics including Alec Mapa, Bobby Lee, and Faizon Love. Justin has successfully entered a number of comedy competitions, becoming the 1st runner-up in the 2013 Bay Area Black Comedy Competition and the 1st place winner in the 2013 Mic is Hot Comedy Competition. He won a 2015 Bay Area Reporter Besties Award for Best Male Comedian and made his TV premiere in HBO's Looking, opposite Jonathan Groff.
Ian Williams began performing in comedy clubs in the Midwest after leaving graduate school in 1984. He has appeared on MTV, A&E, Star Search, and Showtime. Williams has lived in San Francisco for more than two decades and appears at Bay Area clubs including Cobb's and The Punchline. He also has worked as a teacher while partnering with his spouse to run a family that has stayed in operation since 1995.
Barry Fischer is a Bay Area native who has elicited outbursts of laughter around the globe. He launched his stand up comedy career while living in a tiny country in the South Pacific called New Zealand, which went really well ... until he got voted off the island. Since then, his witty style has won over crowds on both the West and East Coasts. He has also performed with the Stanford Improvisers, competed in the Washington Improv Theatre's "Fighting Improv Smackdown Tournament," and has done birthday party magic for 3-year-olds who don't know any better.
Eve Meyer just retired after 30 years as The Executive Director of San Francisco Suicide Prevention. But after 26 years, she is still the mother of Gabriel Edlin. Along the way she developed a sense of humor. She honed her skills doing solo performances at The Marsh, appearances at the annual Camp Mather talent shows, and attempts to organize her weekly agency staff meetings.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ (which celebrated its 25th Anniversary last December); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion. She has recently started another monthly comedy show, Comedy at Ashkenaz! on the second Thursday of the month at Ashkenaz in Berkeley. Lisa moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
