Liam O'Connor, with The Treaty Trio (Sean Clohessy, John and Rory Coyne)
This will STILL be an amazing night of music! Liam OConnor, one of Irelands leading fiddle players, was born into a musical family in Dublin. His father Mick OConnor is a flute player and researcher of music who was a founder member of the Castle Céilí Band. During his youth, Liam was taught by Séamus Glackin and won several All-Ireland and Oireachtas fiddle titles. He was awarded TG4 Young Musician of the Year in 2002. He has performed as a soloist and in duets with the late Liam OFlynn, Noel Hill and Harry Bradley among others.
His new CD is receiving rave reviews deservedly and I have been playing it a lot on A Celtic Sojourn.
Opening for Liam will be the Boston-based Treaty Trio made up of Sean Clohessy, and the father and son dynamism of John and Rory Coyne. What a night of great tunes this will be!
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
Tickets are $23 in advance, with a $5 discount for WGBH Members. If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.
