Saturday March 30 come to the Skagit Valley to learn from Shorty Ounce and Carmen Getsome. Carmen and Shorty have been traveling and coaching roller derby around the world for the last few years, spreading both knowledge and their love for derby as they go! Shorty Ounce is an accomplished blocker that truely understands where to be and what to do when you are there. Carmen Getsome is a veteran jammer whose track awareness and game knowledge have earned her the nickname of "old reliable". Both Shorty and Carmen play for the Rat City Roller Girls All Star team.
THE DEETS:
The Jammer Clinic: Saturday March 30th 9am to 1pm
A four hour training clinic focused on skills you need to know to be a successful roller derby jammer.
This clinic is for jammers of all skill levels, if you have multiple years experience and want to refine your skills or if you are thinking about throwing the star cap on for the first time in 2013 then this clinic is for you!
The four hour clinic will be progressive training allowing you to develop your jammer skills and by the end of the clinic put them to use in scenarios.
The basic schedule for this clinic is:
9-10 Individual juking skills; utilizing your speed, space and size to get past people
10-11 legally getting through a 4 wall, where to be and how to get there
11-12 seeing space and taking it; how to approach a pack and how to pick a line
12-1 jamming smart, when to call it, when to run it; scenarios of all styles.
The Blocking/Containment Clinic: Saturday March 30th 2pm-6pm
This four hour training clinic will be focused on skills you need to know to be a successful roller derby blocker.
This clinic is for blockers of all skill levels, if you want to develop your hitting effectiveness and improve your containment skills in 2013 then this clinic is for you! You will learn many new drills to take home with you and practice on your own to continue your blocker growth!
The four hour clinic will be progressive training allowing you to develop your blocking skills and by the end of the clinic put them to use in scenarios.
The schedule for this clinic is:
2-3 Hitting technique and getting the most bang for your block
3-4 Jammer Soul Sucking....how to suck the life out of a jammer with just 2 or 3 teammates on the track
4-5 Mastering Containment
5-6 Knowing how and when to play offense while containing an opponent
