Three Cane Whale At The Pictures Live at The Old Barn, Kelston Roundhill
Bristol chamber-folk trio Three Cane Whale returns to The Old Barn with twelve short films to accompany twelve tunes on Friday 11th May. Shot by thirteen film makers and visual artists with connections to the Southwest (including John Minton, Kathy Hinde and Adam Laity), each selected a slice of 3CW as inspiration. They were shown at a live band performance at St George's Bristol last year; this is the first date of a 2018 nationwide tour of Three Cane Whale At The Pictures.
The band, "exquisite, elegant, atmospheric and charmingly quirky" as The Guardian observed, will bring their usual petting zoo of instruments including the standard trumpet, mandolin and acoustic guitar and the less familiar bowed psaltery, lyre-harp and dulcitone. Three Cane Whale are: Alex Vann (Spiro, Rock of Eye), Paul Bradley (Organelles, Athea) and Pete Judge (Get The Blessing, Dakhla Brass).
The evening begins with a performance by Red Deer Sleeping: Mog Fry (The Wraiths), singer/songwriter with Simon West on ukulele.
The Old Barn, repurposed from its threshing past, is 300 metres below the summit of Kelston Roundhill and is accessed by a farm track off the A431.
There's parking on site, a cash bar and food available. Doors open at 7.00 pm with Red Deer Sleeping playing at 8.00 pm.
