Folkadelphia presents: Jason Anderson with Arrah Fisher (of Arrah & the Ferns) and Leigh Jones + John Cragie
"For Anderson, there's no song that can't be oversung, no emotion that can't be overplayed, no transcendent rock moment that can't be realized, so long as you have enough passion to make the muscles bulge three feet out of your neck...It's almost always inspiring, partly because he's a really good songwriter with an eye for conversational detail, and partly because he's an infectious performer utterly lacking in self-awareness." --AV Club
Folkadelphia is very excited to present this all-ages intimate concert with our long-time musical idol Jason Anderson. Jason's music gets us feeling chills. His latest records have been anthemic, supremely energetic, and gosh darn, a lot of fun. Joining the concert is Arrah Fisher of Philly's Arrah & the Ferns, who have been recording a new record in upstate NY. They'll be performing in a bit more stripped down configuration for this show! Leigh Jones & John Cragie, two wonderful songwriters, will open!
*JASON ANDERSON: http://jasonanderson.bandcamp.com/
Electrifying audiences with his impassioned, soulful performances, Jason Aanderson's concerts are often described as life changing. Equal parts soul revue and rock 'n' roll revival, Anderson brings to mind mid-70s bootlegs of Springsteen and Van Morrison. His energy and enthusiasm have made his shows a one-of-a-kind sensation in bars and basements everywhere. Not to be missed.
*ARRAH FISHER (ARRAH & THE FERNS): http://arrahandtheferns.bandcamp.com/
Led by front woman Arrah Fisher, The Philadelphia based Arrah and the Ferns meld many sounds of folk, country, blues, indie-rock, and pop. Fisher's unique voice guides listeners into a world of emotion with a backdrop of various instrumentation such as dueling guitars, wurlitzer, and banjolin. Their sound is not easily defined as their direction has changed a number of times since their inception in 2005. They are currently working on their next full-length album
*LEIGH JONES: http://www.leighjonesmusic.net/
She has had the itch to write songs most of her life, but it wasn't until she received a ukulele as a Christmas gift in 2009 that she, at long last, began composing in earnest. Her music evokes the spirit of the city in which she has lived all her adult life, while allowing her southern roots to shine gloriously through. Drawing inspiration from such artists as Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, Neko Case, and so many of her own peers, Leigh performs with the theatricality of a trained actor while her simultaneously sweet and dynamic melodies capture the soulfulness that is at the core of her songwriting.
*JOHN CRAGIE: http://johncraigiemusic.com/
For the past seven years, John Craigie has taken his unique musical style across the western United States. He stays true to the essence of folk music, and the traditions of the seminal writers of our past century. With timeless melodies and insightful lyricsinterspersed with witty storytellinghis songs take many poetic turns before bringing you back home.
