Jay Ward - "Things I Would Say." Spoken Word Jay Ward is a dynamic poet, performer and teaching artist. There is an honest and raw energy released to the audience when his page meets the stage; a story aching to be heard, a salve searching for hearts. Jay represented Charlotte at the Individual World Poetry Slam three consecutive years and at the National Poetry Slam for two consecutive years. He is a 2017 Fellow of both Callaloo and The Watering Hole. Jay has been featured in many venues across the country and has spoken at UNCC, Hofstra and the NCBS 40th Anniversary Conference among other places.
Boom Performance: Things I Would Say Where do we hide our guilt and how does it manifest? In Things I Would Say, Ward finds himself delving into conversations he might have with his father if he hadnt passed away 21 years earlier. In so doing he faces his own shortcomings and comes to a better understanding of the turns his own life has taken. The entire show takes place in a therapists office and is an honest exploration of fatherhood, funny childhood stories, grief, guilt, and finally acceptance.
