Kids on Bikes
Alum Nicole Daniels will be returning to Hampshire College to perform her solo show KIDS ON BIKES, which was originally her Division III project in 2014.
KIDS ON BIKES is a one-woman play written from 32 interviews in a real Baltimore City neighborhood. Creator and performer Nicole Daniels brings to life 13 different characters using the text of her interviews in exploring racism and neighborhood surveillance in "post-racial" America. What happens to a self-proclaimed liberal and diverse community when surveillance and conversations about who belongs in the neighborhood begin to arise? The story chronicles the experience of an 18-year-old mixed-race summer nanny as she navigates her own identity through interactions with neighbors in their homes, at neighborhood meetings, on the street, and in coffee shops.
