Esther Kisimba, Jawad Al-Fatlawi, and Géraud Ngolo: An Evening of New Mainer Music
Esther Kisimba has been singing for audiences and congregations since the age of 12. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, she has been in Portland about 18 months. She loves singing songs from her native Africa. Above all, she loves singing to praise God.
Jawad is a refugee from Iraq and has been in Portland about 2 1/2 years. He is a master oud musician, having begun its study in his early teens. He was a professor of music for many years before leaving Iraq. He also is a talented luthier and has made all the instruments that he plays.
Géraud's style of music is based on African, Italian, and French influences. He usually sings in different languages. Géraud has been living in Portland for a year and feels lucky to have been meeting great people.
