Moscow on the Bluff - Concert V: Nissman Plays Prokofieff
In 1989, Barbara Nissman made history as the first pianist to perform the complete cycle of Prokofieff sonatas in New York's Lincoln Center and in London, and for this concert, she shares her lifelong passion for and expertise about one of Russia's greatest composers. PSO Principal viola Randolph Kelly and David Allen Wehr present two of the cornerstone sonatas of the viola repertoire: by Mikhail Glinka (known as the Father of Russian music), romantic and immediately appealing, and by Dmitri Shostakovich, his last work, completed just weeks before his death, haunting and bleak.
Nissman has a pre-concert conversation with David Allen Wehr about her current Prokofieff recording project.
