Moscow on the Bluff - Concert I: Summertime
Soprano Sari Gruber is joined by jazz greats Joe Utterback on piano and Bill Purse on bass guitar for some of Gershwin's most famous songs, including Someone to Watch Over Me, Our Love Is Here to Stay, Embraceable You, and Summertime, complementing Utterback's improvisations on themes from Gershwin's opera "Porgy and Bess." Gruber also teams up with pianist David Allen Wehr for a heart-wrenching group of songs written by Rachmaninoff, the last before he left his homeland during the Russian Revolution. Wehr will also offer the same composer's early set of Fantasy Pieces, with the famous Prelude in C-Sharp Minor in its original setting.
During the pre-concert conversation, Wehr and Utterback will discuss the music Gershwin, a first-generation Russian immigrant.
