Songwriters on Stage
Each month, the Maine Songwriters' Association presents Songwriters on Stage, a showcase of some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. The show typically features three seasoned performers and an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It's an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. The April concert will feature Jud Caswell, Kat Logan, Paddy Mills, and emerging artist, Tom Mitchell.
Jud Caswell is a little bit like a one-man folk festival. Youve got your banjo picking, your Irish drinking songs, a rack of acoustic instruments, and a deep catalog of award-winning originals. Hes often compared to James Taylor and David Wilcox, but his songs draw on a long musical history and wide-ranging influences from jazz and Piedmont blues to contemporary folk and rock. judcaswell.com
Kat Logan has been performing music all of her life and was trained, and has a musical degree, as an organist. But her real love is singing folk music. She sings like an angel and plays the accordion, as well as the guitar, piano, banjo and a portable pump organ. Kats performance is not to be missed.
Paddy Mills is a multi-award winning songwriter from Owls Head, Maine. Paddy won the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriting Contest, the CT Folk Festival Grassy Hill Song Competition, the South Florida Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Competition, the Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition, and the Mid Atlantic Song Contest and played at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase. paddymills.com
Tom Mitchell, who opens the show as the Emerging Artist, draws from a lifetime of absorbing music of all kinds, with influences ranging from jazz and Bossa Nova to artists like James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot and John Mayer. Constantly exploring new ground with lush chord changes, intricate finger-picking and non-conventional arrangements, Tom draws audiences in with an intimate performance style and stories of love, loss, injustice and current issues.
