Each month come savor provocative independent films paired with small bites from Arthouse:A Social Kitchen's emerging chefs.
Gary International Black Film Festival, ArtHouse: A Social Kitchen and Black Cinema House Monthly film series celebrates Women's History Month with an evening of shorts featuring women in the director's chair paired with small bites from the culinary genius of Chef Lamar Moore. For far too long, Black women have had to stand aside while others receive much needed support and recognition to make and distribute their films. In recent years, Black women are taking their rightful place in the industry directing, writing and producing award winning audience favorites. Now filmmakers like Dee Rees (Mudbound), Shonda Rimes (Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Grey's Anatomy), Ava DuVernay (A Wrinkle in Time, Queen Sugar) and Issa Rae (Insecure) are taking their much deserved place in the industry.
This month we will host Ireashia Monet and Stephanie Jeter from Chicago who will present their hand crafted works designed to simulate the mind and fill the spirit. Come out and support the next powerful woman who is destined to take her spot in the indie film universe. Followed by post screening discussion with filmmakers in attendance.
Screenings feature post screening discussion, a no host bar, and delightful culinary bites created by chef Lamar Moore (Currency Exchange Cafe) to compliment the film's theme.
