MBAA CONTINUES YEAR-LONG CELEBRATION WITH THE DAZZLING
LEGENDARY JAZZ VOCALIST - T.J. GRAHAM!
The Memphis Black Arts Alliance has been delighted to present some of the BEST artist in the Greater Memphis area and beyond at Jazz-A-F!RE, held Every Last Sunday of the month from 4-7pm at the Beautiful Brinson's Restaurant & Lounge, located at 341 Madison Avenue, Downtown Memphis. This month, March 25th, we continue our year-long 35th Anniversary Celebration as we honor the outstanding accomplishments of the Legendary Jazz Vocalist, T.J. Graham!
Originally from Buffalo, New York, T.J. Graham knew early on that Jazz was her true passion. As a young artist, she was inspired and influenced by artists such as Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, and Al Jarreau. Now with five CD recording projects under her belt, the latter produced by the great John Lightman, T.J. has worked with talented jazz greats such as, Gene Rush, Donald Brown, Mark Dr. Scat Weiss, Calvin Newborn and many, many others.
T. J. is noted to be elegant and charismatic in her delivery. Her infectious style and stage presence may come as a surprise to those who only know her as Dr. Graham, for she is college professor of Teacher Education and High School Principal here in Memphis, Tennessee. However, T.J. Graham is also one of Memphis Jazz Finest who produces a natural partnership in her interpretation and reflections in her approach. Robert D. Rusch from Cadence Jazz Magazine says, T.J. Graham is a Jazz Singer without fanfare or gimmick. It all appears so effortless, but talent and sincerity should.
Memphis Black Arts Alliances Jazz-A-F!RE is hosted by the Spectacular Cequita Monique along with the cool sounds of Prime Cut Trio, as they usher us into the land of Smooth Jazz! Our monthly featured guest artists croon us further up the road and then we end the evening by inviting you, our audience, to join the band on stage in our BYOI (Bring Your Own Instrument) full-out jam session! There is nothing in the city like Jazz-A-F!RE!
