Amy Bohnert, Associate Professor, Clinical & Developmental Psychology. Loyola University: Swim (not Sink): Thriving in Organized Activities
Drawing on more almost two decades of research, this talk will address positive consequences of involvement in organized activities during after-school and summer months in addition to addressing concerns about how much is too much, and tips for parents in helping their children navigate the organized activity landscape.

Amy Bohnert is an Associate Professor in Clinical and Developmental Psychology at Loyola University Chicago. Her research focuses on how various out-of-school contexts serve a protective role in psychological and health-related outcomes. She is a nationally recognized scholar on out-of-school time with more than 25 publications that address the impact of organized activities during the after-school hours as well as summertime.  In addition, she has studied psychological processes related to activity involvement among youth in affluent communities including the role of parents in influencing adjustment.

Martha M. Mason, Ed.D., LCPC. Director, Education and Counseling Center. DePaul College of Education: After school programs: Making a difference
There are numerous benefits of after school programs for kids. These include improving social skills, providing academic support, making learning fun, safety and supervision, exposure top new interests, and creating a sense of belonging. Additionally, after school programming provides mental health benefits for children as they increase their self-confidence, collaboration and communication skills, and learn wellness habits that continue a lifetime. Learn how the after school programs not only strengthen kids; but also schools, families, and communities.

Dr. Martha Mason is the Director of the DePaul Education and Counseling Center which provides academic and social emotional supports to children, families, and schools in the Chicagoland area. The center offers ongoing counseling and tutoring, as well as special groups such as Learning to Breath which teaches mindfulness to kids. This summer the center will have its first Harry Potter Camp where kids will engage with others who would like to feel the magic of Hogwarts School for a week. Before taking her position at DePaul Dr. Mason worked in the mental health field for over 20 years. Her biggest passion is serving the community, especially when it makes a difference in the lives of children.

Stacy Tapper, Center Director for C2 Education in Lincoln Park: Preparing for tomorrowthe standardized testing maze by
Today the standardized test is becoming more the norm for your child to move forward in their education.  With that being said, the education environment your child is involved in today is highly competitive and finding strategies that work to help guide your student successfully through the maze is a confusing choice but there are options.  It is important to determine the best dynamic, tutor qualifications, and schedule for your child.  It is never too soon to start preparing your child for their future.
Stacy Tapper, Center Director for C2 Education in Lincoln Park is a DePaul University graduate.  I graduated with honors in 1995 with a Master of Education with an emphasis in Reading and Learning Disabilities.  I appreciate the education I obtained at DePaul and utilize the skill set every day with every child that comes through my doors.  Without the education I received at DePaul I would not be able to reach my own goals of helping students fulfill their educational goals.  I have been involved with Education since 1995 as a teacher, administrator, and now with a well-established tutoring company in Lincoln Park.  My belief is that there is not one way to teach because every child is unique so that a true educator knows when the learning lightbulb has been triggered and how to establish that connection and love of learning.  I love what I do as education is my true passion and look forward to assisting students reach their dreams and feel success every day.
