Penny Rug with Watermelon and Strawberry class at Landis Valley
Learn the art of penny rug applique as you make a 36" long scalloped wool rug. The piece incorporates a whimsical watermelon and strawberry design using four different stitches. As you work, you'll learn how to cut out your applique pieces and position them on your base, what wool is best and how to prepare it, and what kind of thread and needle to use.
Janice Sonnen has been hooking rugs and making penny rugs for the past 16 years. She has written a book on penny rugs, "Penny Rugs: Sewing Wool Applique." She is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and Reading-Berks Craftsmen Guild. She has been picked for the Early American Life Magazine Directory of Craftsmen for ten years.
