Labor 101: Nonprofits and Volunteers, Contractors, and Employees + Legal Clinic
Do labor laws around employees, volunteers, interns and contractors keep you up at night? You are not alone. Nonprofit leaders are faced with a complex web of rules and regulations around labor while also juggling day-to-day operations. If you find yourself wondering about your labor practices and whether you're setting yourself up for a legal issue, join us at this workshop. In this workshop, we'll cover a variety of common stumbling blocks nonprofit leaders encounter when working with employees, volunteers, interns and contractors. Key topics include: -How do you legally classify someone as an employee, independent contractor, volunteer or intern, -What legal responsibilities come along with each classification, -What does it take to bring on my first new hire and how do I hire legally, -What ongoing payroll requirements do I have as a nonprofit employer, -What key documents should I have for employees, volunteers, interns and contractors, to help lower my risk exposure, and much more.
Presenter: Christopher McCauley, Staff Attorney, Wayfind
