CPR Presents: Dance as an Intentional Form of Social Activism
New Voices in Live Performance invites curators to shape a weekend of performances and events at CPR that highlight creative practices in dance, theater, and performance art. This season will consist of two distinct weekends of work. On June 22-23, Frenchy Haynes and Leyland Simmons of Moving Education Institute will present Dance as an Intentional Form of Social Activism, consisting of two works entitled Come Out and Traffic. Come Out uses dance as a springboard to discuss what keeps Black and Latino people silent about HIV/AIDS in relation to Heteropatriarchy, White Supremacy, and Hyper-masculinity. Traffic explores ways in which systems of slavery remain active in the modern world.
