Equitable Justice - A Fundamental Right
Event description: The 7th Annual North Puget Sound Conference on Race (NPSCOR) will be sponsored by the Communities of Color Coalition (C3) working in concert with Edmonds Community College, the Snohomish County Chapter of the NAACP, and additional community partners. This years conference will be Saturday April 28, 2018 at Edmonds Community College.
Our major areas of concern include but are not limited to the elimination of personal and institutional racism; equal access to and opportunities in education; equal access to and opportunities in economic development and employment; and fair and equal treatment under the law and in our society. While previous conference presentations have covered topics such as Labor, Law and Justice, Health, Housing, Food and the Environment, this years topics will be centered around the Equitable Justice and will address four of the areas necessary to influence the Communities of Snohomish County families of color:
1.Education become consciously aware of the environment 2.Community Awareness stop thinking in silos but rather collectively for a common good 3.Community Organizing methods of organizing to stimulate systemic change
The keynote speaker will be Christian Paige, Co-Founder and Director of Communication/Marketing at The H.O.P.E Initiative. He will speak on equity and access while reaching your highest potential.
The conference will include a Breakout session with 4 consecutive workshops focused on the following topics: Gender, Educational, Employment, and Health Care. Discussion groups led by subject matter experts will accompany each workshop. Breakfast and lunch shall be provided it continues to be free and open to the public.
There will be an art show and display, featuring local artist. C3s hope is to facilitate a conference that supports our participants returning to their communities better connected, informed, and prepared by facilitating conversations and actions regarding racism, intolerance, and linguistic barriers that have an impact on our vision and treatment of each other. This free event is open to the public and includes a full healthy lunch. Donations are acceptable to C3 a 501 (c) 3 organization. Previous Keynote speakers have been: 2012 Gerald Hankerson, NAACP Area Conference President and former LWOP at Monroe Correctional Facility 2013 Soya Jung, Senior Partner for ChangeLab 2014 Dr. Paul Pitre, Dean of WSU Everett 2015 Dr. Michael Benitez, Dean of Diversity University of Puget Sound 2016 Dr. Fania Davis, Internationally acclaimed speaker and authoritative organizer on Restorative Justice. 2017 Deborah Parker and Matika Wilbur of the Tulalip Tribes
Who is the audience: The Audience is comprised of College Students and Community residents that are focused on making a difference within their community. How many in attendance: We Anticipate an audience of 300 People
