Pejman Tadayon Ensemble
Alwan for the Arts presents:

The Pejman Tadayon Ensemble

In Sufism, the mystical branch of Islam, music is considered the most sacred of all arts because it raises the human soul higher than external rituals. The Pejman Tadayon Ensemble merges three disciplines that best express the essence of Sufism: music, dance and poetry. Persian Sufi music consists of devotional compositions inspired by the verses of mystic poets such as Rumi, Hafiz and Sa'adi, among others. Music is also the basis of the Sema, the ceremony of the whirling dervishes. The beauty and sacredness of Sufi Music and dance represent the yearning for union with the divine. Featuring:

Pejman Tadayon | musician, composer, painter

Barbara Eramo | vocals

Stefano Saletti |composer, vocalist, buzuki, oud

Giovanni La Cascio | percussion

Julia Kulakova |Sufi whirler

Paola Garcia |Sufi Whirler

About the artists:

Pejman Tadayon is the director of the Pejman Tadayon Ensemble. He has released several music albums, including Universal Sufi Music. Pejman plays the oud, kamancheh, ney, daff and setar. He is also an innovative painter and the creator of pittura sonora, paintings that are musical instruments with strings that can be played. Born in Isfahan, Iran, Pejman lives and creates in Rome, italy.

Barbara Eramo is a classically trained opera singer and musician whose evovactive melodies seek the expression of pure emotion. Barbara gave voice and sound to the inspiring images of Emily Dickinson's poems in her solo album, "Emily."

Stefano Saletti is a composer and musician of traditional Mediterranean music. He is a vocalist, a buzuki and an oud player. Together with Barbara Eramo, Stefano worked on Hector Zazou's contemporary, Asian-influenced version of the song, I Feel Love, featured on Buddha Bar XIII compilation.

Giovanni Lo Cascio is a percussionist. He is responsible for the Dulcimer Foundation for Music's project Juakali Drummers in Nairobi, Kenya for the rehabilitation of street kids through music. He also teaches at Rome University of Fine Arts.

Sufi Whirlers:

Julia Kulakova is an internationally acclaimed musical theater dance with a specialty in Persian Classical and Russian Gypsy dance. She is a featured performer at New York Persian Parade, New York Gypsy Festival as well as events at the United Nations. She also leads holistic movement and qi gong workshops.

Paola Garcia is a student of Sufism. She is a New York-based writer and a Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies researcher. She is pursuing graduate studies at Columbia University. Paolo took part in Pejman Tadayon and Rana Gorgani's Sufi Whirling Intensive workshop in France this past summer.
