The Defibulators
Skyflight Productions productions presents an evening with The Defibulators on Tuesday June 18, 2013 at The Albert S George Youth Center at Barnesville Memorial Park in Barnesville, OH. The Defibulators are a hillbilly band from New York City. Likened to watching "Hee-Haw on mescaline", The DEFiBULATORs jump-start new life into vintage country music and deliver a unique sound that's anything but old-timey. Their sonic buckshot is a mix of sawing fiddle, fat telecaster twang, howling harmonica, a driving rhythm section of upright bass, drums, and washboard, heavy vocal harmonies, and surreal lyrics that spin big-rig tales of deception, debauchery, depleted bank accounts, domestic dilemmas, fanaticism, vintage firearms, biological anomalies, airline intoxication, and animal ennui. The band's roots can be traced to a local bbq joint, where Bug Jennings and Chris Hartway (aka Roadblock), worked as bartenders. Along with singer Erin Bru, the 3 found a shared obsession with classic country music. Cutting their teeth on early Western Swing, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, and Honky-Tonk, they landed their first gig, opening for a punk band in an East Village tiki bar. After two years of relentless gigging in NYC, the band released their debut album Corn Money in 2009 and hit the road hard, touring extensively across the country. Their 1st tour van was a 1977 Dodge ambulance from Effingham, IL that they accidentally bought on Ebay. Produced by John Hill and Terrence Bernardo, mixed by D. James Goodwin, and mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, Corn Money was cited as "a fantastic, fantastical debut" (Melophobe) and "a brash, bold, trend-setting accomplishment" (Honest Tune) See More Press. The Defibulators have self-published their very own Coloring Book and have licensed and recorded songs for film and TV including NFL FLMS, THE DRY LAND, SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA, THE BROOKLYN BROTHERS BEAT THE BEST, SKIPTRACERS, I JUST WANT MY PANTS BACK, and ROADTRIP NATION. They can often be found serving as the house band for the long-running comedic event, THE REJECTION SHOW, at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in NYC. The band enjoys authentic BBQ, afternoon badminton, and bourbon on a bearskin rug. When not on the road together, The Defibulators reside in individual, non-mobile homes in Hoboken, Harlem, and Brooklyn.
