About Almond Zigmund

Almond Zigmund was born in California, raised in Brooklyn, and now lives in East Hampton, NY. She received an undergraduate degree from Parsons School of Design in NY and Paris and an MFA from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Almonds work has been exhibited internationally including shows at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, NY, the Las Vegas Art Museum, the Laguna Art Museum, the New Museum in New York City, and Southampton Arts Center. Her work has been written about in Art in America, Flash Art, The Art Newspaper, and the Los Angeles Times, among others.

Almond's work is an exploration of tension, gesture, form and space and volume. She creates installations using patterns, shapes, and color that she has culled from various sources that speak of a re-negotiated relationship of viewer to object and plane, a kind of stage set for a dance between image, object, environment and participant. By playing with perspective and manipulating the tension between flat color and form and the implied three dimensional illusion she is able to create a space which is complex yet simple, a space that is defined by our reactions, by the visceral connection to basic principles of the art object: form color, line, space. By using simple geometry she renegotiates the relationship between the perceived and the actual, by shifting our bodys sense of equilibrium and challenging our perceptions of the way we believe things to be.
