It is Saturday morning, the Holy Day of Housekeeping and the ancient vacuum is out. LJ just wants to finish her chores and get away from her mother but the tube won't go into the mouth of this prehistoric monster. Her mother is furious. She screams and threatens and chases LJ out of the house. The screen door slams just as LJ realizes its raining. As she turns to go back inside to get out of the storm, her mother clicks the little metal lock on the screen door and walks away. Abandoned and alone, she starts to cry. Until she hears a deep, booming voice in the distance.

He scrambles eggs. She prepares coffee. They take their places at the table, morning domesticity on the Upper East Side. Except that it's Saturday and their boss makes three, this is her apartment. They are there on her time. Laura is a journalist hired to help write her book, he's an exercise physiologist obliged to help her get in shape. The boss has no idea he is seeing Laura on the side: "When are you getting a girlfriend?" she asks him. Laura's leg touches his under the table and she shoots him a look. He wants her silence. Her boss wants her compliance. Both want her company. Laura's losing control. How much longer can she keep it together?

Until Chuck got the phone call everything was going along nicely. He was the young local sports reporter, covering home town sports at the second-largest newspaper in the third-largest city in Colorado. Then the phone rang in his little studio apartment. The paper, Chuck was told, has been sold and the media conglomerate that bought it is bringing in a new sports editor up from their headquarters in Oklahoma. Seriously? Some Oakie hick is going to be our boss? Thats crazy. And it was, only not in the way Chuck thought.
