Re-Defining the Edge: Engaging with Youth Artists and Audiences
Engagement with youth is crucial to the continuation of radical arts programming, but artists often shy away from working with youth due to barriers they consider out of their control. Workshop participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of how to establish effective creative partnerships with youth across social and economic barriers. Through a combination of materials and philosophies, participants will be given tools for deep and effective engagement with youth artists and audiences.

This workshop series invites artists on the edge of culture to teach their peers about the personal and professional skills theyve developed to thrive on the margins. The program  a unique collaboration between Patricks Cabaret, Pangea World Theater, and Soo Visual Arts Center  is intended to create collaborative space for artists to share their skills with fellow artists and organizers, to strengthen relationships and build resilience, and to provide opportunities for artists to put their knowledges to work.

"Re-Defining the Edge" is led by Seth Matz, a community artist and facilitator based in Minneapolis. His past performance credits include 20% Theatre Company, The Friction Collective, Madame of the Arts, St. Catherine University, and Patrick's Cabaret. He has also served as a teaching artist with youth from infancy through school age, in schools and organizations throughout the metro including Sabes JCC, Minnesota Internship Center High School, St. Paul's Childhood Center, and Laura Jeffrey Academy. He currently lives in Uptown with his partner, Jenn, and their three cats.

A note on venue accessibility: SooVAC's entrance has a ramp, and the gallery space and bathrooms are ADA compliant. The bathrooms will be non-gendered.

Snacks and refreshments will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis!
