JOY w/My Fair Dad (short) 9:10 PM
Director: Julie Shles Country/Year: Israel, 2005 Language: Hebrew w/subtitles Running Time: 90 min. Format: 35mm
Joy Levine lives in a shabby apartment and trudges through a dead-end job with a boss that exploits her. When she auditions for the reality show, "Gotta Be Happy," about forgiveness to be aired after Yom Kippur, she's surprised to find herself chosen. This heartbreakingly unforgettable character with a dysfunctional family must not only let viewers into her private inner-world but conduct a family reconciliation. A masterful work from a director who has the uncanny ability to encompass the endearing and the bleak. Sigalit Fuchs won Best Actress at the Jerusalem International Film Festival and Israeli Academy Awards.
