Echo Theater Collective Presents: Blues for Mister Charlie
Blues for Mister Charlie by James Baldwin is a social commentary drama in three acts. It was first produced and published in 1964. The play is dedicated to the memory of Medgar Evers, his widow and children, and to the memory of the dead children of Birmingham." It is loosely based on the Emmett Till murder that occurred in Money, Mississippi, before the Civil Rights Movement began.
TRIGGER WARNING: This performance contains simulated stage violence, including the use of prop guns, which may be triggering to certain individuals, including those who suffer from PTSD.
Blues for Mister Charlie will be directed by Maui Jones, Artistic Director of Echo Theater Collective.
We are aggressively pursuing other local agencies and organizations to build programming around this event. This philosphy of "continuing the conversation" will be the blueprint for everything we do. For this project I am looking to create pathways in the community for people to walk after seeing the play. We will have panel discussions at L!ve Cafe following each weekend of performances, reading lists at the local libraries, and more!
