CAMPFIRE presented by AJC SEATTLE JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL 2006
CAMPFIRE 7:00 PM
Director: Joseph Cedar Country/Year: Israel, 2004 Language: Hebrew w/subtitles Running Time: 95 min. Format: 35mm
A widow wants to change her life and protect her family by moving to a religious settlement. Her two teenage daughters have different ideas. The daughters are both going through growing pains, as they explore the opposite sex-and its repercussions. Moshe Ivgy (METALLIC BLUES, SJFF March 12 and Speilberg's MUNICH) is endearing in this compelling film as Yossi a mini-bus driver, a middle aged virgin on the lookout for a wife. A controversial film in Israel, CAMPFIRE, written and directed by Joseph Cedar, an Orthodox Jew and former Israeli paratrooper, has come under fire for its jaundiced portrayal of early West Bank settlers as self-righteous and clannish. Winner of 6 Israeli Academy Awards 2004 and Israel's submission to the 2005 Oscars for "Best Foreign Language Film."
