Nice Boots
"Nice Boots" combines music, fashion, poetry
Part of proceeds will benefit Dress for Success
Rochester, March 12, 2018 Rochester-based innovative quintet fivebyfive presents NICE BOOTS, a program of new music, poetry and a pop-up fashion shop, on Sunday April 15th at 4pm at the Clover Center for Arts and Spirituality (1101 Clover Street, Rochester).
Music will include Nice Boots by Jascha Naveson, Night Dance by Jon Russell, Inner Circle and Looking Both Ways by Eastman grad David Crowell as well as Genesee Stomp, a new work written for this program by fivebyfive's guitarist, Sungmin Shin.
Also on the program are two pieces by Meredith Monk (arranged by fivebyfive's Eric Polenik) in celebration of Monk's 75th birthday, and a nod to an upcoming residency at the Visual Studies Workshop that fivebyfive will take part in later this year.
Additionally, fivebyfive will play the music of their winner of the ensemble's first call for scores: Constant by Julia Seeholzer, an American composer living in Poland, as well as a work by honorable mention winner Andersen Viana from Brazil.
Poet Kitty Jospé will also read some of her works as part of this upbeat, creatively engaging program. She is known to Rochester audiences for her collaborations with such groups as Push Physical Theater and the Rochester Oratorio Society.
And, spruce up your wardrobe at intermission and before/after the concert: Rochester's newest vintage clothing store The Op-Shop will be offering a "pop-up" featuring clothing and shoes from their store.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 the day of the concert. Join in the fun by wearing boots and then your tickets will be just $10 at the door. Bring the whole family the cost of admission for a family is capped at $20.
