Games People Play presented by MotionArt
Come see Games People Play featuring choreography by MotionArt's co-directors Pam Gleason and Diane Moncrieff. Enjoy a captivating, moving, and sometimes hilarious evening of dance performed by MotionArt's multigenerational group of dancers as they explore - both literally and figuratively - the games that people play.
Gleason, who collaborated with videographers Nathan Gebhard and Guy Wagner of Splash Tantrum, will premiere "Evergreen", a video of 32 dancers, ages 18 -80, combining dance and chess in a unique way to bring back a famous chess match from the 1800s. There will be some live chess as well, in her comically musical duet with John Agurkis. Gleason will also premiere "Fray", a lively, abstract, twisted exploration of current competitive atmosphere set on 11 dancers. And lastly, Gleason will present a new thought-provoking, laughter inducing quartet, which features the latest in human substitution technology.
Moncrieff offers up a new work entitled "Cordata", a shifting dreamlike tableau set on six dancers searching for human connection in algorithmically influenced lives. "Light Trip" is Moncrieff's second foray into a luminous dimension, inspired by the music and culture of EDM. She will also restage "Spring Dance", a joyful and ceremonious tribute to shedding winter coats and welcoming a season of warmth and renewal. This structured improvisation, originally co-created with Heidi Hauser Jasmin in 2001, will be performed by a multigenerational group of dancers including children and adults with ages spanning over 70 years.
MotionArt performers in Games People Play include Alex Adams, John Agurkis, Linden Baierl, Mary Bock, Julie Bolton, Robert Borman, Kirsten Brenden, Melissa Brown, Judythe Calabay, Wes Cannon, Harrison Cha, Montgomery Cha, Jan Coursolle, Anita Demants, Maggie Desenberg, Sydney Enzler, Sylvia Enzler, Erika Finanger, Moe Antonio Storm Flood, Pam Gleason, Elana Gravitz, Grace Grissman, Lucy Grissman, Twyla Guenther, Una Guenther, Marylee Hardenbergh, Maren Hinderlie, Camille Horstmann, Jackie Johnson, Lisa Lange, Kim Lewis, Susan McKenna, Lori Mercil, Diane Moncrieff, Ella Moore, Iris Moore, Shannon Mulcahy, H.
