CHECKING OUT presented by AJC SEATTLE JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL 2006
CHECKING OUT 8:50 PM
Director: Jeff Hare Country/Year: USA, 2005 Language: English Running Time: 94 min. Format: DigiBeta
CHECKING OUT has been called the funniest film about suicide ever made. In a comic twist on Shakespeare's "The Tempest," Peter Falk stars as a feisty widower and retired thespian of the bygone Yiddish stage who plans to take his "final curtain call" after his 90th birthday party. His three grown children (played by Laura San Giacomo, Judge Reinhold and David Paymer) attempt to put a stop to his impending adieu. Audiences will relish Falk's flamboyant performance and CHECKING OUT's adept ensemble cast delivering the film's snappy dialogue with just the right combination of schmaltz and schtick. Based on an obscure 1970's Broadway play, CHECKING OUT is a madcap yet contemplative comedy about Jewish family fragmentation.
