BAX presents Room by Night
BAX presents Room by Night, a reinterpretation of German jazz standards by Hildegard Knef. John di Martino on piano and Yoshi Waki on bass.
Hildegard Knef (known in the U.S. as Hildegarde Neff) was a star in Hollywood, and in 1955 she starred on Broadway in the role of Ninotchka in Cole Porter's Silk Stockings. Inspired, when she got back to Berlin she began to write her own song lyrics, which became standards in Germany. The BAX song selections describe a lonely journey in a room at night, a searching and longing for love, freedom and happiness.
Actor and singer Sebastian Stert worked for four years at Theater Aachen and performed in Berlin at the Schaubühne, Deutsches Theater, Maxim Gorki Theater, Bar jeder Vernunft, and at the Stattsoper. He is currently appearing and the Anhatisches Theater in Dessau. As a jazz singer, he performs under the name BAX. He's studied and worked in Berlin and New York with such renowned jazz musicians as Céline Rudolph, Jay Clayton, Wolfgang Köhler, and Kirk Nurock. In 2017 he released his debut album, Zimmer bei Nacht.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
