This lecture/workshop is designed to help writers find inspiration for their stories. In class discussion, we'll explore the fascinating methods of famous creatives and swap our own techniques. Some exercises we'll try together include:
- An idea journal (where you write down one interesting thing you observe/overhear) - A creative meditation (where you open your mind to possibilities and relax) - A story search (where you examine what type of stories compel you) - Character free-writes (where you connect more deeply with your characters) - Setting free-writes (where you better understand the atmosphere of your story)
Some of these exercises will come from popular writing books such as The Anatomy of Story by John Truby and Take Off Your Pants: Outline Your Books for Faster, Better Writing by Libbie Hawker. Finally, we'll wrap up with tips for finding a supportive writer's group, so that you can continue your journey with encouragement and support.
