LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO Special CD Release Concert Tour Event with THE EMILIO TEUBAL TRIO
A special CD music release concert event with The EMILIO TEUBAL TRIO comes to the popular LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO CONCERT SERIES on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 8:00pm. The venue is located at MONDO, 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ. The audience is surrounded by inspiring fine art at this intimate and cozy venue as they enjoy a concert experience with the best of Latin jazz artists from NYC and beyond. Accomplished pianist Emilio Teubal is joined for this special concert by fellow Argentine musicians Ivan Barenboim on clarinets and Federico Diaz on guitar.
After three critically acclaimed records featuring large ensembles with a strong emphasis on improvisation, Emilios latest project is a small chamber group consisting on piano, Spanish guitar and clarinet. The music, written especially for this ensemble, draws from a wide variety of musical styles that are part of his cultural background: Latin-American Folk music, Tango music, Jazz, Free improvisation, Classical music and hints of Middle Eastern music.
Emilio Teubal was born in Madrid, Spain in 1976. At that time, his parents were in exile from the dictatorship government in Argentina. After a year in Spain, the whole family moved to Mexico City where they spent five years. In 1984, with the return of the democracy, his family decided to go back to Argentina. Once in Buenos Aires, Emilio started playing the piano at the age of nine. He studied piano at the National Conservatory of Buenos Aires, and composition, arranging, and orchestration with private teachers. He was a very active performer in the tango and jazz scene of Buenos Aires until 1999, when he relocated to New York City to continue his musical studies.
In the United States, Emilio earned a BFA in Music from the City College of New York, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He also received the Bushwick Composition Award for two consecutive years. At CCNY his teachers included prominent jazz figures such as Marc Copland, Scott Reeves, Bruce Barth, Mike Holober, John Pattitucci, Cliff Korman and Ron Carter.
The current CD release concert tour features Emilios recently released fourth album, Memorias de Otro Tiempo on the independent label Not Yet Records.  Prior to this album he released  Música Para Un Dragon Dormido,(2013) on the Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records label, that was chosen as the 2013 best album by several specialized jazz media sources, and has been placed in the top 100 albums on the digital online store E-Music. The album received worldwide press recognition with rave reviews calling it a classic album of this modern jazz age in fifty years time As near to perfection as you can get (Dave Sumner Bird is The Worn). The album features some of Teubals longtime collaborators, Moto Fukushima, Sam Sadigursky and John Hadfield, plus special guests Erik Friedlander and Satoshi Takeishi. Prior to this album, Emilio released two critically acclaimed records: La Balteuband(2006), and Un Monton de Notas (2009).
Emilio has performed both as a band leader and sideman in some of the most prestigious venues and theaters in the United States such as Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Symphony Space, The Blue Note, Birdland, Le Poisson Rouge, Joes Pub, and Citifield.
In 2007, Emilio was awarded the Meet The Composers prestigious Van Lier Fellowship, which provides support for talented, culturally diverse young people who are seriously dedicated to a career in the arts.
His credits as a Jazz and Tango Pianist include performances and recordings with Marta Gomez, Pedro Giraudo, The Adam Tully Trio, Sam Sadigursky, Erik Friedlander, Sebastian Cruz, The Pan-American Orchestra, the multiple Grammy award winners Fernando Otero and Phillippe Quint, bandoneon legends Raul Jaurena, Lisandro Adrover and Daniel Binelli,  and Astor Piazollas legendary violinist Fernando Suarez Paz.  Emilio has also written music for TV and for several websites. His music has been featured in the independent movie Meet the Patels. In 2017 Emilio was commissioned by Saint Peters Church in NYC to compose a piece for more than 40 instrumentalists and singers to commemorate the 400 anniversary of the Lutheran reform.
Concert tickets are priced at $20 in advance / $25 at the door.
