Cabaret Under Glass...A benefit for children's charities
Cabaret Under Glass promises to be a stunning evening when Long Island's very own cabaret singer, Risa Finkel, returns with her new show celebrating spring and children, all reflected within the shimmery beauty of the candle lit greenhouse at Scarsellas Flowers in Laurel Hollow. Proceeds from the four performances will support the important work of five Long Island not-for-profit organizations helping children in need-- The Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club, The Lend a Hand Project, The North Shore Holiday House, Long Island Cares and Save the Children.
As in all her shows, Risa Finkel brings to the stage her open hearted insight and humor weaving together songs from the great American Songbook featuring the music of Jerry Herman, Alan Menken, Stephen Sondheim, Maltby and Shire, Kander and Ebb, Richard Rodgers, Jule Styne and David Friedman, to name a few.
Accompanied by some of New York Citys finest musicians --Bob Renino on bass, Rex Benincasa on percussion and multi award winning Music Director, Christopher Denny at the piano. The show is directed by multi-MAC Award and Bistro Award Winning director, Lennie Watts with creative consultants, Tony Award winning actress, Faith Prince and MAC, Bistro and multiple award winning songwriter, composer and producer, David Friedman. From a sold-out engagement in New York, StageBuddy review noted, "With a seamless blend of songs and stories that will break your heart or make you laugh until you plotz, cabaret singer Risa Finkel is just terrific. Its obvious her show is like a stunning string of pearls shimmering with many moments from her well lived life."
Additionally reviewed in Bistro Awards, "Finkel has something essential going for her: an impressive talent for making listeners feel fully at home. She entertains not just by being a stand-on-the-stage and sing performer, but also in the sense of being a caring and gracious hostess."
Along with performing in the cabaret clubs of New York, Risa performed in some of Long Island and New Yorks most unique venues -- a turn of the century foundry, a boatyard warehouse and the Heckscher Museum of Art. Her first passion in song was in the roles of opera, classical repertoire and musical theatre, but the intimacy and storytelling of cabaret has captured her now and her audience couldn't be happier.
