El edificio
"El edificio" is a play based on six short stories written in Spanish, English, and Arabic by Chicago authors: Mark Litwicki, Alejandro Ferrer, Stanislaw Jaroszek, Fernando Olsanzski, Yazan Bata, and Raul Dorantes. The play takes places in the last five hours of a 80 year old building on Chicago's Northwest side. The landlady, Herminia, decides to stay in the condemned building. She inherited the building and her position of manager from her mother who had inherited it from her great aunt. Herminia, an immigrant from Argentina, came to Chicago to support her mother and to become a writer. After thirty-five years she has only partially developed one character. During the play the many tenants who have lived in the building and in Herminia's memories tell their stories. As well, Amadeo, Herminia's fictional creation accompanies her and the tenants. The only character who does not come from Herminia's memories or writings is an indigenous woman who appears throughout the performance and who Herminia only sees in the last moments of the building. Herminia has created her life around the building and her memories. In the final moments, before the building will be destroyed, she must decide what will become of herself and those memories.
The cast includes: Andrea Leguizamon, José Rochel, Paula Aguirre, Juanjo López, Carolina Rodriguéz, Armando Villegas, Iván Hernández, Claudia Urbano and Miguel Marzana.
