Echoes of Erin on St. Patricks Day
On St. Patricks Day, Tompkins Corners Cultural Center will present Echoes of Erin, a celebration of the music that has sustained waves of Irish emigrants in their journey to this isle of hope, as Janice Hardgrove sings in the show.
The strong narrative character of the Irish song tradition provides stirring insight into the soul of every emigrantwhat it means to leave behind everything one knows and lovesperhaps forever. These songs which saw the Irish through the hard times of No Irish Wanted Here, as Joe Mahon relates, live on in the revered tradition of the party piece every Irish child learns as soon as they can speak!
Telling our story with their own party pieces - song and story, jigs and reels - are Judy Allen, Pat Cummings, Janice Hardgrove and Tim Pitt of A Simple Heart, Joe Mahon, Neil Hickey, Kate OConnor and Jan Hoekstra, Pallas Athene Scott and Linda Megale Thornton.
